  The Houghton Lake Area offers activities for everyone in the family four seasons a year. With great lakes, great rivers and streams surrounded by tranquil woods there is something for everyone.

Fun On The Water
  Roscommon County has some of the finest canoeing, kayaking and tubing in the world. Nestled in gently rolling hills and valleys, the gently flowing rivers will treat you to a special experience. Float the Muskegon River or the South Branch of the world famous AuSable River.

Exploring The Past
  The Historical Village contains eleven restored 1800’s buildings including a schoolroom, museum, town hall and others. Every year on the first weekend of August Village Days Festival is held in the historical village.   During Village Days the historic site comes alive with demonstrations, guides in period costumes, all buildings open and operating.  There are also numerous craft and musical demonstrations.  The Village is open Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial through Labor Day.

The Firemen's Memorial is a monument dedicated to all fire fighters that have died in the line of duty.  This memorial is one of few in the nation to honor these fallen heroes.  Each year usually during the 3rd week of September, a festival is held in remembrance these brave citizens.

The Civilian Conservation Corps Museum has many photographs and artifacts depicting the CCC workers day-to-day life and accomplishments, including a replica CCC barracks building with exhibits. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day with daily hours from 10 AM to 4 PM.

  One of the really great things about Houghton Lake is the accommodations. If you want to bring the whole family and stay at a waterfront resort there are many to choose from or if you just want a place for a short period of time there is an assortment of nice motels. Maybe you are looking for that perfect couple’s getaway! Well they have that to.

The Pines Theatre is a 450-seat Log Cabin Chalet was designed by C. Howard Crane to look like a hunter's cabin.  Originally opened in 1941 by W.J. Olson, who owned many theaters in Michigan at the time, the Pines features 40-foot cathedral log ceilings, a parquet wood floor, and a large collection of trophy game animals.

The Springbrook Inn offers 8 luxury rooms with hot tubs, king size bed, fireplace and more, casual fine dining on premise, outdoor tiki bar in the summer, indoor lounge in the winter, lovely perennial gardens, a beautiful koi fish pond with waterfall and gazebo. The East Bay Grille offers an intimate dining atmosphere while serving only the freshest & finest food available.

Fun For Kids Of All Ages
  Funland Amusement Park has waterslides, a token arcade, batting cages, go-carts, harness trampoline, small rides and water boats. Located at 6329 W. Houghton Lake Dr. in Houghton Lake, they can be contacted for more information at (989) 422-5204.
Lakeland Recreation offers miniature golf, a haunted house, go-karts, batting cages, bumper cars, moonwalk, power wheels (3-6 years) and boats. They have an arcade, pool tables, and foosball. They have a food court that includes sodas, slushies, pizza, and more. Located on M-55 in Houghton Lake they can be contacted at (989) 422-3576.

A Natural Escape
  Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve - Peaceful hiking trails amongst mature white and red pine forest and cedar swamp. This is an area working to protect habitat and wildlife forever.  The Preserve is open to the public from dawn until dusk.  One trail is paved and wheelchair accessible.  Gahagan Preserve is located in Roscommon, off M18 and Southline Rd. directly behind Compost Center.

If a day in the sand and the sun is what you enjoy, the Houghton Lake Area is the place for you. With dozens of resorts, motels and lodges located right on the water and many more public beaches and picnic areas, you will have your pick of the right beach for you. There are great public beaches that include swimming; children toys, barbecue pits and sheltered picnic areas and some even have showers and toilets.

Great Lakes Windsurfing LLC is your source for all  windsurfing needs.  They host the Great Lakes Demo Tour to provide introductory lessons, rigging and tuning clinics and an opportunity for riders of all levels to try the latest gear in locations where they live and sail.
