It was a good show, they have more than I thought in that area, I was at Bay City Recreation and I thought it was a relatively small park. I didn't know they had an area right there with 2100 acres. I live in Greenbush near Oscoda and last week I was at Negwegon State Park and Ossineke Campground fronting Lake Huron and Presque Isle near Alpena. I went to Rockport State Park, Besser Natural Area (the other end of Rockport), New and Old Presque Isle Lighthouses, Thompson Harbor Stare Park (almost 8 miles of Lake Huron shoreline) and let me tell you, nothing beats up north.

Porcupine Mountains State Park has a lot - waterfalls, trails, rivers, small mountain scenery and more, but I never hear anything about the 23 miles of beautiful Lake Superior shoreline that is has. To me, that's the best feature of the park.

The forests that rebuilt Chicago after the fire of 1871. Same year fires ravaged Michigan towns as well but lesser known to history. The logging boom had dwindled by then but these forests rebuilt Chicago and towns of Michigan up to Wisconsin.

Tom...long time viewer; first time feedback. Your show last night on WCMU was excellent. I first visited Widewaters with my parents in 1959. Dad made a homebrew boat out of plywood that folded in half and we put it on our tent/trailer and had a wonderful camping trip over the years. One of my fondest memories is watching a small freight train go across FFH13 half way between Widewaters and Wetmore. The tracks are long gone and my wife Mary Jo has to listen to me whimper every time we cross the old railroad bed. Our camping days are over but we are still in love with the Munising area.
We also used to stay at the Pinewood Lodge which is on M28 a couple of miles past Au Train. Owners Jerry and Jennie Craig have passed away but our memories are still very vivid. And we still have our punch card for the Brownstone Inn but I see that Jeff and Deb no longer own it. Another excellent place.
We both love the U.P. and Houghton/Hancock is another area that you covered well. Even your trips to Alpena/Oscoda/Tawas are great as we previously lived in Saginaw for 25 years before moving up to Interlochen 10 years ago.
I grew to love your show when I worked for CMU Public Broadcasting for the last 7 years of my work life. I had the best job ever as I used to tell people I was paid to cross the Mackinac Bridge. CMU Public Broadcasting had transmitters from Mt Pleasant to Ludington to Flint and Bay City and all the way up to Sugar Island near the Soo. My job was to keep them on the air. Keep up the great work!

Great stuff! Cindy & I were just up there a couple of weeks ago. Stayed at Straights, Tahquamenon, & Mclain. Visited Paradise, Lake of the Clouds, the Great Sand Bay (I remember you telling me about sitting there with Tom, enjoying an adult beverage and deciding on the name of your production company) and Copper Harbor as well as the Jam Pot (always a must when we are in the Keweenaw). Hiked Lower Tahquamenon trails as well as a number of trails in the Porkies. I know you were up there when we were & I half expected to cross paths with you. The UP is a special place indeed.

Absolutely great community. I spent the last 5 years at our property here and loved every minute of it, before recently selling and moving to Oscoda for a new investment opportunity. But I highly recommend Au Gres, the people are always friendly and the fishing is off the charts. We had a family of Eagles that nested by our property and I never got used to seeing them up close they are stunning to watch hunt at dusk every evening. ❤ AuGres

I grew up in the Eastern UP in the 70s, an avid bike rider, but had never heard of this trail. I canoed the Fox River in the 80s, cris-crossed the area by car a hundred times, still had never heard of it till now.
